Gerwig and Baumbach made their red carpet debut as an official couple at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards.

They did the same for 2015’sMistress America, before Gerwig began her own solo directorial career with 2017’sLady Bird.

Barbieis the first film directed by Gerwig to be co-written with Baumbach.
