Born Charles Herbert Woolery in Ashland, Ky., on Mar.
16, 1941, Woolery served two years in the Navy before beginning his career in entertainment.
After the Avant-Garde broke up in 1969, Woolery went solo, switching to country music in the ’70s.

Woolery hosted the show until 1981, earning a Daytime Emmy nomination in 1978.
In 2007, Woolery was inducted into the American TV Game Show Hall of Fame.
However, Woolery changed his stance after his son contracted the virus.
