Turturro declined to reprise his role inThe Penguin,and the character was recast withMark Strong.

But he foundThe Batman’s Falcone tolerable because the violence he inflicts “happens off-screen.”

“Its scarier that way,” he reasoned.

“You don’t think this hurts me?”

“You made me do this, just like your mother.”

“You cant do everything you want to,” he reflected on passing over the opportunity.

It’s not as if Turturro’s hard pressed for interesting roles.

Reeves (who executive produced the series) confirmed that Batman himself willnot be making an appearance.

“I don’t feel like it’s missing something fundamental,” he recently explained.
