But respect for their work didn’t wane.

In 1990, Fakir and his bandmates were inducted into theRock & Roll Hall of Fameby Stevie Wonder.

They were also recognized with a Grammy lifetime achievement award in 2009.

Fakir collected his memories in a 2022 memoir,I’ll Be There.

He is survived by Piper Gibson, his wife of 50 years, and six children.
