The Starr talks about his standout performance as the star-spangled antagonist in season 4.

Of course, people could make the comparison, and they did.

I didnt want the character to be a mustache-twirling villain.

It had to be a real person built from the ground up.

The other thing is, I really dont like using the word psychopath.

It makes me nervous to be in similar company, but we are!

Starr provided input on these scenes that changed the episode dramatically.

Initially, Homelander was cruel “top to bottom” upon arrival in the lab, Kripke previously noted.

Starr, however, wanted more complex emotions with Homelander returning to the place where he grew up.

“What was on the page was already good.

It just struck a chord in me that I thought we could go in a slightly different direction.”

That, for us, was this season.

Its really interesting meeting fans, which I do quite a lot.

They do really feel like, What the f—?

Whats wrong with me?

I love Homelander, but hes so bad.

What was so fun about making that [season 4] finale is we could really trigger the endgame.

He took over the country.

Its his country now.

What does that look like in season 5, and how do our characters fight against it?

Im excited with what were coming up with.
