While he had been diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014, she said he had recovered.

“He was in a situation where he was going to sell his place in New Mexico.
It ended up being two-and-a-half months.”
They were just sitting at the kitchen table with music in the background.
“These Doors songs started playing, and we spontaneously both started singing,” Forte wrote.
“I think it started with ‘L.A.
Woman,’ and then we sang ‘Roadhouse Blues’ and then ‘Touch Me.’
Now he’s just become Val to me.”
