AsBradley Cooper’s awards prospects forMaestroultimately dwindled, his status as one of the most-nominated living entertainers without anOscarswin hit a crescendo at Sunday night’s ceremony.

The 49-year-old multi-hyphenate didn’t win any of the three honors he was up for during the 96th Academy Awards including for writing, producing, and starring in the Best Picture-nominated Leonard Bernstein biographical drama meaning he’s now lost a near-record 12 career nominations.

Beginning with his first Best Actor nomination forSilver Linings Playbookroughly 11 years ago, Cooper would go on to earn four additional acting notices for lead performances inAmerican Sniper,A Star Is Born, andMaestro, while his supporting turn inAmerican Hustlealso scored recognition from the Academy in 2014.

Cooper’s total does not, however, make him the most-nominated living person to have never won an Oscar.

That distinction belongs to sound mixer Greg P. Russell, who has 16 nominations in Sound, ranging from 2012’sSkyfallall the way back to 1989’sBlack Rain, plus one nomination for 13 Hoursthat wasrescinded the day before the 2017 Oscarsafter the Academy determined Russell hadl violated campaign rules.

Other widely-nominated entertainers who’ve achieved multiple nominations without a competitive victory include songwriting icon and 15-time nomineeDiane Warren(who received anHonorary Award from the Academy in 2022) as well as legendary actressGlenn Close, who has eight overall nominations.

Looking toward the future, Cooper’s upcoming slate looks fit to, at the very least, bring the actor more awards attention particularlySteven Spielberg’s currently untitledreimagining of the story surrounding Steve McQueen’s titularBullittcharacter, and Cooper’s next directorial outing,Is This Thing On?, which was written byWill Arnett.
